For years I have been frustrated with off-the-shelf front vices. It seems I am always fumbling for wedges to prevent racking or needing the perfect touch to get a quick release mechanism to work just right.  At the same time, I don’t like how bulky many leg vices can be.  This led me to design an improved version and I ended up with enough material left over to make a second vice. If you are looking for a rugged, high-performing vice made from the highest quality materials, this is the vice for you. I might be talked into making a few more of these if there is any interest.

-Minimal racking - Vice firmly grips your part no matter where you clamp it

-Minimal effort - Fast travel, low friction ACME screw advances 1/2” per turn.  Rigid design ensures clamping forces are applied to your parts and not wasted in the mechanism.

-Minimal maintenance - Critical moving parts are shielded from dust yet parts still have enough clearance to tolerate the occasional drop of glue.

-Minimal obstructions - 12 3/8” wide jaws and slender 2.25” square post significantly increase available clamping area over traditional front vice designs. Jaws open up to 10”.

-Easy Install - Direct install on workbenches 3.75” thick - shims or pockets will be needed for other thicknesses.  Designed for workbenches at least 24” wide, telescoping tube turns traditionally underutilized space into rigidity.
