VISITING MASTERS Every year the Guild brings international woodworking masters to Portland to provide workshops for members. These masters are the ‘best of the best’ and by bringing them to Portland we provide a local learning opportunity that has immeasurable value. Examples of masters that have provided workshops for members include: Michael Fortune Mike Pekovich Mary May George Walker Doug Stowe Michael Cullen Kelly Parker Chris Schwarz |
MENTORING One of the newer education offerings is mentoring. In mentoring, we attempt to connect experienced and inexperienced woodworkers in a way that creates one-on-one or small group learning by providing hands-on expert assistance. For those interested in hand tools, we provide opportunities for gaining the knowledge and experience for increase the skill in hand tool use. Mentoring sessions are also offered in our new Studio for those interested in CNC. We strongly believe that the use of hands as a learning tool cannot be over-emphasized and mentoring allows this transactional relationship to occur in the best possible way. This is a developing element of our educational program and we hope to increase dramatically over the next few years. |
