I watch craigslist and fb marketplace like a hawk, I've gotten some incredible things out if it especially if you can process rougher stock.

  BMR is good, but also depending your use, the rebuilding center up on Mississippi is great.  Some of the old old structural lumber I've gotten from there is some of the best pine I've ever seen, go look at the end grain on the old nasty black looking ones, a lot of the old stuff is riftsawn; plane and joint it and it's lovely

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for those then! I can only store enough wood for a few projects at a time so somewhere I can purchase lumber as needed would be ideal.

Any options nearby for reasonably priced dimensional pine/fir/etc. lumber that's better than average? Mainly looking for 2x12x16-20 without a lot of knots, sap, and missing material that I can rip to size myself.
