This place had a bunch of granite sink cutouts in the parking lot last time I was there. Not sure if they’re giving them away.

    Ryan,

I got a scrap piece of granite countertop for free at a company on 99 Pacific Hwy near SW 72nd Ave.  They share an entrance with Uhaul.  I don’t know if they are still in business but the experience taught me that such dealers have scraps. Mine has irregular ends but the plane doesn’t care what the ends look like as long as it’s long enough so I haven’t cut it down.  Good luck finding your stone.

    Hi there,

I have noticed that all the good hand tools artisans have what appears to be a piece of flat stone (from a countertop or some such) they use to insure flatness of a hand plane.

Where would someone find such a stone on the west side (Beaverton area)? What might the approximate cost be?

    Thanks for your input.
