7:15 Presentation - Tom McCloskey
Boxes, Boxes, Boxes
Tom McCloskey joined the Guild in 2019 and was immediately welcomed into the Toy Build group led by our beloved Guild superstar, Gig Lewis. It was during this time that Tom entered that part of woodworking that every novice has to experience—the box building phase. What sets this story apart is the fact that, after seven years, Tom has never left his box building phase. A few years ago Tom was asked by the Education Director if he could form a Special Interest Group for Boxes. Before Tom could reply, the next weekly blast announced the formation of a Box SIG.
In a few short years, the Box SIG has grown into a very important part of the lives of the 15-20 members who show up at the Studio on the first Thursday of every month. The typical “show & tell” session can easily take an hour and a half, and the affirmation and support of the group with each other is mind blowing. Truth be told, this type of camaraderie is evident in other SIGs and groups as well. It is truly one of the joys of belonging to this wonderful group that we call the Guild.
Come to the meeting on March 17 to hear Tom talk about what makes the Box SIG special and celebrate all of the other groups that make our Guild so much fun.
