Intro to CNC Routing
Instructors: Rich Bader and Dave Smith
Curious about CNC Routing and how you can incorporate this tool into your woodworking? This class is for you! It starts at the very beginning, describing what CNC routing is all about. We'll discuss the various machines available (including the CNC machine owned by the Guild) and the software needed to design and cut your work. Numerous examples of how CNC routing can be used in woodworking will be presented, from the simple sign to joinery and inlay work in fine furniture. Furthermore, we will help you determine if CNC routing is right for you. Yes, it can get a little complicated and yes, some computer skills are needed. The class will present a realistic assessment of what it takes to do your own designs, use plans already available, and safely and accurately cut your work. There will be a demonstration of the Guild's CNC machine, but no student hands-on in this class. Lastly, we'll provide some pointers on where you can learn some more about CNC on your own.
This is a, free, pre-pilot class and is the first time presented. As such, the ideal student will have some familiarity with CNC Routing and will be able to provide the feedback necessary to make it a successful experience for subsequent, less experienced students.
There are no unique prerequisites for this class, nor does the student need to bring any tools or supplies.
