Guild of Oregon Woodworkers

Member Requirements to use the Guild Shop

Overview
To work on your project in the shop, using our core workshop tools, you must qualify for and possess a "Green Card".  To accomplish this you must:
  1. Attend a Safety & Orientation (S&O) Class (free, but you need to register for it) - Completion gets you a White Card, which is your first step to getting a Green Card.
  2. Next complete all four of the Core Tool Skills courses and certifications OR take and pass the comprehensive Hands-On Safety Test (HOST).  Both paths lead to a Green Card.
    1. If you are new or have limited experience with these workshop machines, we suggest that you take the Core Tool Skills training courses to familiarize yourself with each of our core tools and our safety rules.
    2. If you have experience on our workshop level tools, you likely have the skills to pass our HOST.
  3. When you have completed all of the requirements for your Green card (either through the HOST or Machine Skills process), you will receive your Green Card and a free five (5) 2-hour sessions Shop Time card ($60 value) to use in our workshop.  This will be placed in our member card cabinet in the workshop, within 48 hours of you earning your new Green card.
See the following section for details.

    ·         The HOST session takes 3-4 hours, during which you will demonstrate that you can safely use each machine through a series of exercises administered by the examiner.

    ·         Register on-line ($60 fee) for a scheduled HOST exam (limited to 3 people per session)
